Paula and Jim enjoy sharing their knowledge with others, and offer several workshops.

 

Paula's Workshops and Schedule:

Paula offers several classes using Silver Precious Metal Clay (PMC).  All classes can be scheduled at your convenience for groups of 4 or more.  In addition to the classes listed below,

Paula is working on a number of new offerings for 2010.

 

 

Introduction to Precious Metal Clay Jewelry




Learn the fundamental techniques of working with Precious Metal Clay (PMC):  rolling, texturing, cutting, piercing, and torch firing, as well as more advanced topics including: fold over bails, coils, and setting Cubic Zirconias.  The instructor will provide all tools and supplies needed for the class, but students are encouraged to bring their own jewelry making or clay working tools and supplies if they have them.

 


Materials Kit includes: 25g PMC3, pair Sterling Silver Earwires, Sterling Silver Jump Ring, Satin Cord, pair 4 mm Cubic Zirconia.


6-hour workshop, minimum 4 students, maximum 8



Rings! in PMC3

Learn to make solid silver rings with PMC3.  We will cover correct ring sizing, construction methods, firing and finishing.   Our focus will be on creating basic band, wrap and coil rings, using PMC3 syringe to embellish.  Time permitting, we will also discuss variations of these techniques.   The instructor will provide the specialized tools and supplies needed for the class.

Prerequisite:  All students must take the introductory workshop, or have other similar experience in metal clay, prior to taking this workshop.

Additional supplies needed:  Students should bring their own basic metal clay tools and PMC3 Slip.    Students may purchase PMC3 slip at the workshop, and use a basic metal clay tool set for an additional fee.  Please bring magnifiers or reading glasses for detailed work.

Please note:   Rings will be kiln-fired off-site and will be available for pickup the following week.

Beads! in PMC3

Learn to make silver beads with PMC3.   Our focus will be on creating lentil, hollow core and wrapped beads, using PMC3 syringe to embellish.  Time permitting, we will also discuss variations of these techniques.   We will cover various construction methods, firing and finishing.  The instructor will provide the specialized tools and supplies needed for the class

Prerequisite:  All students must take the introductory workshop, or have other similar experience in metal clay, prior to taking this workshop.

Setting Stones in PMC3

Go beyond CZs, and learn to set stones in PMC3.   Our focus will be creating two pendants.  One that features a dichroic glass cabochon set directly in PMC3.  The other will feature a fine silver bezel cup used to set a semi-precious cabochon after firing.  Time permitting, we will also discuss variations of these techniques.   We will cover construction methods, firing, and finishing.  The instructor will provide the specialized tools and supplies needed for the class.

Prerequisite:  All students must take the introductory workshop, or have other similar experience in metal clay, prior to taking this workshop.

Organic Forms for Metal Clay Jewelry

Learn to create jewelry components from twigs, flowers, leaves, acorns and other organic materials using the paste (slip) version of metal clay.   We will cover construction methods, firing, and finishing.  The instructor will provide the all tools and supplies needed for the class.

Prerequisite:  Students should have some experience in beading and making jewelry to understand and envision how the components can be used in completed jewelry.  Prior experience in metal clay is not required, but helpful.

Additional supplies needed:  Bring leaves, twigs, food items and other organic materials.  No plastics or man-made fibers.  Please bring magnifiers or reading glasses for detailed work.

Please note:   Components will be kiln-fired off-site and will be available for pickup the following week.


Materials Kit includes: 20g Art Clay Slip


6-hour workshop, minimum 4 students, maximum 10




Working with BronzClay

Learn to create jewelry components in BronzClay.  We will cover construction methods, firing and finishing.  The instructor will provide the all tools and supplies needed for the class.

Prerequisite:  Students should have some experience in PMC (silver metal clay) so that the differences in working with Bronze will be clear.

Additional supplies needed:  Please bring magnifiers or reading glasses for detailed work.

Please note:   Components will be kiln-fired off-site and will be available for pickup the following week.

Jim's Workshops and Schedule:

Jim has been studying book binding for several years.  Each session focuses on a specific style of book binding to create a blank journal.  Students can then use their own creativity to embellish and customize their journal.

 

 

Handmade Book Workshop

If you can poke a hole, thread a needle and tie a knot you can make this beautiful tacket bound book, suitable for journaling, sketching, addresses and more.  All materials included, just bring your imagination and anything you wish to personalize your creation.  Limit 8 students.
